Created by Aldebaran Robotics, NAO (pronounced “now”) is a 58-cm tall humanoid robot with 25 degrees of freedom, designed to be fully and easily programmable. With 2 cameras, accelerometer, gyrometer, touch sensors, 4 microphones and 25 motors, NAO is an innovative Linux device with some powerful capabilities in object recognition, face detection, text to speech and collision detection. We will first introduce its basic software and hardware architecture. Then we will demonstrate how to develop applications using the Java SDK, such as developing a brain for your robot in pure Java or creating a NAO remote controller using an Android mobile device. Bring your imagination to the meeting and help create a NY-style brain and behaviors for the NAO!
