Abstract: 

RavenDB, a document database similar to MongoDB and CouchDB, but written in .NET, can be a great solution for a variety of business challenges. John Bennett, VP of Technology at global digital agency Huge, will discuss the development and operational challenges of creating and managing a RavenDB-backed CMS for one of the largest news sites in the US. He'll present examples and approaches to handling huge traffic spikes in an environment when no downtime is acceptable.

John Bennett is Vice President of Technology at global digital agency Huge, where he oversees multiple full-build projects for clients including AARP, Synacor and MassMutual. He works to develop and grow the agency's expertise in delivering complex technical solutions and specializes in large-scale media and e-commerce websites, content management, Agile methodologies, data-center-to-cloud migrations, .NET and open source. Previously, John worked as a Principal Engineer at NBC News, where he developed CMS and related systems for NBCNews.com, Today.com and other sites. He also served as Technology Director at IconNicholson (now part of LBi), leading delivery teams for the Nestle Waters and Robin Hood Foundation accounts. With 19 years of experience, John oversaw the launch of some of the original websites for Variety and Publishers Weekly. He studied Russian and Soviet Studies at Harvard College
