As we move into the post-PC world, both consumer and business applications are becoming mobile. What will this look like, and how can we be ready for it? What problems will we meet along the way, and what do we already know about their solutions? How will the successful mobile apps of tomorrow be different from the me-toos? These are the questions that the Tomorrow's Mobile track will explore.

Meeting each other in the context of conversations we care about is why at QCon we are giving prime time to the unconference format; it creates a space for peer-to-peer learning, collaboration and creativity.

First we’ll father in a circle to be guided through creating an agenda using open space technology. Then there will be three three 20 minute time slots, each with 5 concurrent break out discussions that were designed by you.

Design Patterns for Mobile Apps

Mobile Apps are the new hotness. However, when it comes to building mobile apps, the new hotness can learn from some of the old skool design patterns made popular by the book Design Patterns by the Gang of Four. Many of the original design patterns introduced in this book are extremely useful in today's network centric world. By applying, some of these original patterns to our applications, we can quickly solve problems using tried and proven techniques.
As technologies have evolved since the first publication of Design Patterns, we'll also delve into patterns that apply to modern issues such as multithreading in a multicore world.

How much thinking goes into the personality and tone of your app? What about writing the error messages, alerts, calls-to-action, app descriptions or release notes?
Whether you have an app concept yet to be built, or an app that's been out for a while, Jaimee wants to share some very important considerations in on-boarding, design and copywriting to help your apps become more fun, delightful and engaging experiences for your users.
Gamifying Enterprise Mobile Applications: Do we have a winner?

Many people are talking about gamification as this smart marketing method for selling more products and improving customer loyalty simply by adding game elements to applications. But why not use gamification internally in the company and make boring everyday tasks more fun for the employees? By adding game mechanics to your enterprise mobile apps you should be able to increase work satisfaction and time of deliveries while showing the employees that you are ahead in technology.
We will take a business-to-employee look at UX, prototyping and user testing of gamified enterprise mobile apps to see if these really do bring more value to the company or if its all buzz and no bees.
Hyper Focused to a Fault

Mobile applications of today all have one characteristic in common. By design, they are narrowly focused, isolated, and self contained. Focus is important for expertise and simplification of user experience; isolated, self-contained apps are important for privacy and security concerns. But this model has serious limitations. What if your nutrition app could record the fact that you just completed a run and burned 500 calories? What if after making a purchase through a shopping app, your favorite personal finance app could learn that you just spent $50 on shoes and $200 on clothing? No one application will ever be able to solve all these problems well. Can we, however, solve the privacy and security concerns which prevent this kind of inter-app communication? The stand-out apps of the future must, if they are to support advanced open data and API standards that will allow their power and reach to spread far beyond any one focus.
